Driver's Note: Sebring 2022
September 23-25, 2022 | Sebring International Raceway | SRO America TCX
Friday
Sebring is my least favorite track on the calendar. The abrasive surface combined with the heat makes for an unfavorable situation. Nonetheless, I was looking to make the best of the weekend and come out with as many points as possible.
Saturday
I qualified 4th on the grid for Race 1, which I was pleased with given I knew I had the pace over the long run. In Race 1, I gained 1 spot and ended up finishing third with very little drama from the entire field. I lost some points in the championship, but was happy to accept that knowing there was still a sizable margin going forward.
Sunday
Sunday’s race was slightly more frustrating. After starting third and making up a spot to second on the first lap, a cut-down tire forced me into the pits to replace it. Taking me out of contention for any sort of podium finish. Unlike at Watkins Glen, there was not a yellow flag, so I was put back on track way down the order behind TC and TCA cars. I eventually finished the race in 7th place, which did grant some points. However, the gap had significantly decreased from the start of the weekend. The overall championship title was going to come down to the final 2 races in Indy.
